One of the last few fridays I have off; 3-day weekends are amazing and even though nothing important ever gets accomplished, I always end up well-rested. This was no exception; friday went to see Nick&Norah movie which was thoroughly dissapointing. Saturday woke up at 6:30 in the am to drive my mother to the metro, had lunch at the ol' alma matre bagel eatery place. I've always been uneasy about eating there as an undergrad for some reason. However, this time it was great! Its probably my favourite breakfast place; they have those bagels that are made fresh....you have to be there I guess.
Elite-xc saturday night was a joke. I caught the kimbo slice fight. Kinda a disgrace; the challenger gave up over 30lbs to fight on the main card. The regular guy ended up not fighting at last moment because of some scratch. Whatever, I don't buy it. So they got a light heavyweight from the undercard to fill in for a super-heavyweight. Thats not only stupid; that's just plain dangerous and irresponsible. It turned out ok cause Kimbo can't take a punch, what?!?! But still, that kind of shenanigans would never work in a professional organization. UWC, which is another mma promotion came next but it was amateur-hour; fighters gassed after 1 round. Say what you will about ufc, at least their guys can (mostly) go the distance.
Played around with erlang a bit; still haven't figured out what I should use it for. The language itself isn't entirely consistent but its got a lot of potential. I'm beginning to think that maybe the programming language used is a good indicator of the type of job. Bear with me here; its real easy to hire j2ee hacks and real easy to train monkeys to write bad java code. So there's lots of projects out there using the java stack simply because its an easy language to use and you can hire for it. Even though it might not be the best tool for the job. If you've a hammer, everything becomes a nail - that type of thing. Whereas, a company using some non-java/c language; chances are someone thought about which tools to use and decided to use the language that best supports the abstractions needed for the project. Those are probably the companies that know what they're doing.
The weekend is ending, lets take a moment to commemorate.........
